Christmastime in NYC {part I}
I have been to NYC a couple of times, but never during Christmas and never with my whole family. We didn't do the typical tourist sights. We decided to just enjoy ourselves and not adhere to a strict schedule. We had a list of things we wanted to do, and places we wanted to go. We didn't get to everything on our list, but we managed to accomplish a lot.
Rockefeller Center was beautiful. I've always wanted to see the Christmas tree and ice skaters.
Did you know that the flagship Anthropologie store is in Rockefeller Plaza?
As you would expect, the window displays were beautiful and clever.
See if you can figure this one out.
Well? What do you think?
Scotch tape. They taped the entire window to make it look frosted!
Can you imagine?
I love how they used the vintage ornaments as a chandelier of sorts. I have a love-hate relationship with wallpaper, but I think this wallpaper is gorgeous.
The interior was pretty, too.
Our girls spent a fair amount of time scouring the racks here at Anthropologie. They were having a HUGE clearance sale, and the excitement of these school girls, possibly being able to afford something, had them giddy.
.
We had a couple of bakeries on our NYC to-do list, and this one was just on the other end of Rockefeller Plaza.
Magnolia Bakery was wonderful. It was cute as a button, and everything we ate was delicious. My favorites were the lemon bars and the peanut butter cookies. We only got the peanut butter cookies because they were out of chocolate chip... and looking back, it seems the mishap was absolutely providential.
The other bakery on our list was Ferrara's in Little Italy.
Our sweet pastor's wife recommended it... and boy were we glad she did.
{This is our second visit.}
If you look really hard, you can see our little guy in that photo above. He's wearing a camouflage jacket, and you know how that camo blends right in with all of those pastries. This was the ONLY camouflage I saw during our entire five day stint in The Big Apple. We saw a lot of unique fashion, but never any camo.
.
We ate lunch at an Italian restaurant just a few doors down.
Da Nico... it was fabulous.
Our waiter was absolutely charming in the most genuine way. He asked our little guy to help him sing Happy Birthday to someone at a neighboring table. I was shocked that he agreed. It was precious.
As a result, we were showered with a complimentary appetizer, salads and a large dessert.
When our waiter arrived at our table with the salads, he said (in a very thick Italian accent), "It's Christmastime... a holy time!" --- It was so heartfelt and joyful. It was balm to the soul... right there in the middle of New York City.
We left Little Italy with our bellies full, and headed to Purl SOHO.
With all of the bakeries on our list, it was a good thing we did a lot of walking.
My, oh my... I could have spent hours upon hours in this place.
But these guys could not, so I picked up the pace and tried to be reasonable.
Do you recognize some Liberty of London fabrics here? They had a great selection. I purchased a few other fabrics, a small bundle of felt, and a couple other odds and ends. So much fun.
I'll share later, what I bought and what I am planning to make with it.
